June's Spiritual Flower: The Rose
By Erin Whalen
June’s spiritual flower is the Rose, representing love, which is a perfect flower to compliment the month of things blooming.
The rose a metaphor for life. The thorns on the rose are compared to the struggles in life one must overcome and the rose petals represent the beauty of completion. The Christians believed the symbol of the rose and its first five petals represented the five wounds of Christ; and the color red represented the blood. With the rose being so popular it’s no wonder there are so many representations for this spiritual flower but the one thing all these have in common is love.
Like the colors of roses, love comes in many forms. Some love is light while some can be a burden. Seeing there are different degrees of love, a type of rose has been passed down through the generations. Your intended receiver may or may not know the meaning – and although intention is everything – there’s a quick glossary to keep your intention and action congruent.
• Red – love, courage, and respect
• Pink – gentle feelings of love and friendship
• White – innocence, secrecy, and friendship
• Yellow – Joy, deep friendship, and platonic love
• Purple - Protection / maternal love
• Blue – Mystery
• Burgundy – Beauty
While you may know the colors, did you know that the number of roses also plays a role in the meaning. If you are planning on sending your intended love roses, here are a few rules of thumb when sending roses in numbers:
• Single rose = simplicity
• Single red rose in full bloom = I love you or engagement
• 25 roses = congratulations
• 2 roses together = coming engagement
• 50 roses = unconditional love
• 12 roses = ultimate declaration of love
• 1 Full bloomed rose with 2 buds = secret
June’s spiritual flower has been given as a symbol of love throughout the ages and is by far the most recognized flower of all time. Whether you have a deep emotional attachment or a blossoming friendship that you’d like to express, there is no better way than to send the person of desire a rose. Just be sure you choose the appropriate color and amount. |
