Why organic?
Organic by definition means: of, relating to, or derived from living matter;
produced, or involving production, without the use of chemical fertilizers,
pesticides, or other artificial agents.
This should be enough to outline why organic we feel that is the choice for
powerful intentions, but in case you're interested...
It's obvious that there are many harmful chemicals introduced into our foods
and produce before and after they are harvested. Chemicals change the energy
of the food introducing poison into our systems - there are some purists who
believe even using a metal spoon to stir herb tea can change the chemical
compound and weaken the strength of the tea.
Using any substance that is not naturally occurring in something also inhibits
the natural flow of energy. Consider how hard it is to get certified organic!
It's pretty rigorous actually, however since it varies from state to state,
in general it means: all growing adheres to strict state standards, record
keeping must be maintained and the farm is inspected to ensure they are meeting
the state requirements, and finally they must submit to soil testing and do it
themselves. Organic farming is not an easy task, but the demand is growing
in the United States and farmers are stepping up to the challenge. Why organic?
Because it is what the public is demanding!
Okay, but what does organic really mean for the products we purchase and use daily?
Food - Produce cannot be labeled as organic until three growing seasons have
passed without the use of chemicals. Organic products are clearly marked 'organic'
on their labels - this is not something that anyone would want to hide!
Clothing - Much like our food source, the clothes we wear come from plants
or are manufactured with...right, chemicals. Have you ever considered that
since our skin is the largest organ we have that means that whatever we wear or
put next to our skin does matter! The organic clothing movement is growing too.
A few organic fabrics and their properties are listed below as a starting point.
Organic Fabrics:
- Hemp - Usually cultivated without pesticides and continuously fertilizes the
soil naturally by shedding its leaves while growing. (Clothing made from hemp
can be rough so it should be tried on first)
- Cotton - Organic cotton will say 'organic' on the label. Cotton is a favorite
because it is a soft and breathable fiber.
- EcoSpun - This is a fiber taken from the stem of the flax plant. It is
comfortable in warm weather as it absorbs moisture. It is comparable to linen
the only difference is that it is processed organically.
In the end, we choose organic products because they are better for us. And,
when focusing on creating a powerful intention you are standing in earth energy
and there is no question as to why organic is the most direct connection to spirit.
We suggest looking at Windowbox.com or Acacia.com for their assortment of Organic
products. And don't forget our personal favorite pharmacy: Smallflower.com.
