Tree Leaves

Names of tree leaves vary from alnus glutinos to ulnus alata and the textures, uses, shapes and sizes are equally as diverse. In Christianity tree leaves were Adam and Eve’s first clothing when they were cast out of the Garden of Eden.

According to the Old Testament the tree represented the knowledge of good and evil. In ancient Egypt many trees were represented in myths and art. Sycamore trees had multiple meanings and were often planted near tombs and coffins; it was believed that its wood helped deliver the dead back into the womb of the mother tree goddess.
