Gardening has been associated for years with religion; perhaps due to the numerous references in ancient texts such as the Bible. Gardening seems like a spiritual practice for many because it instantly connects literally us to Mother Earth by touching the soil, planting seeds, weeding and watering.
Just kneeling in the dirt and breathing in all of the oxygen emitted by plants is very grounding. It is often perceived as a magical way of healing oneself. Being able to plant a seed and watch it grow mimics our own life cycles of our birth, life and death. Their completion is ours, their regeneration can also be ours.
For centuries gardens have also been used as omens and to portend what the future might be like. If you were the owner of a garden whose roses didn't blossom then it is possible that your love would wither by the end of the year. If your garden was overrun by bugs you could be robbed or have to pay a lot of taxes. If your garden withered and died then this could indicate overall misfortune.
Today we still look to the exterior of a home to judge the interior, don't we? Take some time today to walk through your garden with spirit and ask: where should we apply love today? Where can we use some healing?
What is one spot that you can give your attention to today? Take a moment to focus spiritual healing on one area. How is it like you?
