Prairie Grasses
Create A Forest for Fairies

Prairie grass truly is a signature plant when it comes to being an essential part of North American scenery. The original tall grass prairie consisted of an area from Saskatchewan to Texas to Northern Indiana.

The three grasses that dominated the prairie and that you can still grow in your back yard today are Big Bluestem, Indian grass and cord grass. These three types of grasses are called the tall grass prairie grasses because they can stand nine feet tall.

There are also over 150 other kinds that you can grow including prairie dropseed, porcupine grass, side oats, and needle grass. An ancient ritual using prairie grass involves rubbing a blade of it on a flat stone until it makes a green mark, making a wish and then casting the stone into a nearby lake, river or stream. For the wish to come true it is imperative that no one else see you perform this ritual.

Another ritual that you can try using prairie grass that is planted around your home is to take a tall blade and tie a single knot in it without uprooting it. This can help drive out evil and protect your home's residents against negative entities and thought forms. Rolling a bundle of plucked prairie grass until it is shaped like a ball and suspending it in your front window also accomplishes the same type of purpose.

Prairie grass is perfect as a backdrop for shorter flowers or for a yard that is cultivated to attract butterflies. You can even grow it tall and thick enough so that it can act as a kind of privacy hedge.

Prairie grass grows tall so historically it has always been seen as a place where spirits or fairies hide. When the wind rustles through it both pagan and North American cultures believe that messages from another world may be whispered to the listener.
