Five Ways to Nurture Your Whole Self


We've come up with five ways to nurture your whole self that use a more holistic approach. First, the term holistic medicine. Holistic medicine comes from the Greek word for 'whole' or 'multi-dimensional'. The idea behind holism dates back to the ancient civilizations in Egypt and Greece and recognized the need to nurture the mind, body, spirit, and the whole self--not just treat symptoms as they appear.

Here are five ways to nurture your whole self: mind, body, and spirit.

1. Take some meditative time in preparing and eating your meals. Say a prayer of gratitude over your food. Don't rush, don't worry if it isn't perfect. Pray for all those who helped this food get to you. Bless it and it will nurture you!

2. Take a sun bath (but wear sunscreen!). Your body needs the vitamin D that sunlight produces in your skin. Up to an hour of sunlight and fresh air every day will help boost your spirits, and if you add a brisk walk, it will keep your body happy.

3. Practice self-forgiveness. Deal with negative feelings as they arise. Bottling things up can lead to both mental and physical problems. Share your thoughts with a neutral person. Being misunderstood is often the core of anger. Find someone who understands your point of view. Once you feel heard, forgive yourself! That's right; we must only forgive what we have judged.

4. Find a special place in your garden to drink in the day. Enjoy the beauty of nature, stroll amidst the leaves. Give space and time for new thoughts and inspirations to come. Pick one flower and place it in a vase near you. Enjoy the time you share.

5. Plan a trip to a place of great beauty. This is probably the most important of the five ways to nurture your whole self! Your trip can be inside as in meditation, or it can be a physical trip to a location that gives you pleasure. Remember, the only thing that is real is Love. These five ways to nurture your whole self are all about sourcing love for yourself.
